About Ascensa Health at St Judes Recovery Center
Ascensa Health (formerly St. Jude’s Recovery Center) is a CARF accredited addiction and behavioral health treatment center in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia. The admissions office is on Pine Street and takes walk-ins on weekdays starting at 8:00 a.m. They offer comprehensive services for adults with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. They have different levels of care, including subacute detox. This is a good program if you’re uninsured because state funding covers the costs for clients who are uninsured or underinsured. They also take insurance as an out of network provider.
The detox (withdrawal management) program is a residential program in a 24 bed facility. They have around the clock medical monitoring. If you’re intoxicated, experiencing withdrawal symptoms, or if you’re in imminent withdrawal, they can help you detox. If your symptoms are severe or life threatening, they’ll refer you to a hospital.
Withdrawal symptoms differ depending on the type of substances used and the duration and severity of the use. Some common symptoms of alcohol withdrawal are headaches, tremors, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, and high blood pressure. Early symptoms of opioid withdrawal may include excessive tearing, insomnia, sweating, agitation, and muscle aches.
In the withdrawal management program, they’ll give you supportive medications to help ease your symptoms and make you more comfortable. They’ll also give you fluids and a balanced and nutritious diet. The time in detox is different for everyone, but the maximum stay in the detox program is 20 days. Most people are through withdrawal in about 5-7 days. Detox is an important step in recovery because you’re ridding your body of toxins and breaking the physical dependence you have on the substances.
After detox, you’re ready to meet with your team to decide on your next step. You may move to a residential treatment program. There are also outpatient programs that may be more appropriate, depending on your situation.
Levels of Care
-
Inpatient
Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
-
Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnosis programs address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously. This integrated approach to care improves the likelihood of long term recovery and stability by addressing the root causes of addiction.
-
Sober Living
Sober living homes provide a supportive and substance free environment for you to live in as you overcome your addiction. Residents must follow house rules and support each other's recovery journeys. Sober living fosters accountability and stability during this critical phase of recovery.
