About Avera Behavioral Health Center Sioux Falls
Avera Behavioral Health Hospital offers a variety of mental health and addiction care services. They’re based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They opened in 2006 and after a major expansion in 2022, they began offering 24/7 urgent care for behavioral health, observation services, and a partial hospitalization program for youths.
In terms of addiction focused care, they can provide stabilization services for adults before referring them to another treatment center or community-based program. They run a 28-day adult addiction program from the Avera Addiction Care Center located just around the corner.
Their adolescent addiction services at Avera Behavioral Health Hospital are extensive. They offer a residential and partial hospitalization program for adolescents. They specifically designed the programs to accommodate the needs of different age groups, not pretending that seven year olds and seventeen year olds face the same challenges. The rooms are private and have their own bathrooms, with easy access to recreational spaces designed for down time.
All of Avera’s adolescent treatment options prioritize maintaining the child’s schooling. The partial hospitalization program accommodates regular school hours, while the residential program includes education onsite. In the residential program, they also provide opportunities for exercise in a low-pressure and encouraging environment to help the kids get healthy from every angle.
Something cool about Avera Behavioral Health Hospital is that they offer a program called Arts in Healing, which involves music therapy, art therapy, and other forms of recreational therapy. These approaches give you alternate ways to communicate your feelings, work through mental health challenges, and build confidence in yourself.
This location is also home to the Avera Pharmacy, where you can collect prescriptions and safely dispose of unused or expired medications. For your convenience, they can send you text alerts and reminders when you’re due for a refill.
If you like to go outdoors to clear your mind and unwind, they’re sandwiched between Platinum Valley Park and Sertoma Park. There are other gyms and exercise centers scattered throughout town.
Levels of Care
-
Inpatient
Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.
-
PHP
Partial hospitalization programs provide comprehensive treatment in a structured setting during the day but allow you to return home at night. These programs offer a balance of inpatient and outpatient rehab and provide intensive support without full time residency.
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
-
Aftercare
Aftercare programs provide ongoing support after you complete a rehab program. They may include several components to help you maintain sobriety including therapy, community support groups and relapse prevention strategies. This gives you a network of resources as you reintegrate into your daily life.
-
Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnosis programs address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously. This integrated approach to care improves the likelihood of long term recovery and stability by addressing the root causes of addiction.
