About Baystate Health Family Medicine Northampton
Baystate Health Family Medicine Northampton is a healthcare clinic in the vast Baystate Health network. They’re located in Northampton, Massachusetts, in a shopping center on King Street or Highway 5. They’re very near I-91 and the Connecticut River.
This outpatient clinic is a medical center with multiple specialties. One of those specialties is a unique addiction treatment program for pregnant and postpartum women. It’s called EMPOWER, which stands for Engaging Mothers for Positive Outcomes with Early Referrals. The goal is to help pregnant clients and new moms to detox from drugs and alcohol and to maintain a healthy recovery for the benefit of themselves and their children.
Part of this program is medication for detox and addiction recovery. Medications can reduce your withdrawal symptoms and help you stay sober while you get treatment like individual therapy and group therapy. Basically, medications treat the physical components of addiction while therapy treats the mental and emotional aspects of addiction.
What I think is also helpful about this program and this treatment center is that you’re part of a large healthcare network and you’re at the same clinic where there is primary care. This way you can have your primary care doctor and your addiction care and other specialties coordinated together so all your providers understand how to best help you stay sober and healthy.
The center is in a commercial district, but there some ways to stay in shape and unwind between counseling sessions. There are some gyms in the area, including the Northampton Athletic Club. There’s also Barrett Saint Marsh if you like to clear your mind in nature.
There aren’t many reviews to tell me how the client experience is here. While the overall reviews aren’t very good, those reviews are mostly for primary care and other medical specialties rather than the addiction treatment program.
Levels of Care
-
Inpatient
Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
-
Aftercare
Aftercare programs provide ongoing support after you complete a rehab program. They may include several components to help you maintain sobriety including therapy, community support groups and relapse prevention strategies. This gives you a network of resources as you reintegrate into your daily life.
-
Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnosis programs address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously. This integrated approach to care improves the likelihood of long term recovery and stability by addressing the root causes of addiction.
