About Charleston Center of Charleston County

Charleston Center of Charleston County is the county’s Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services. Their mission is to help county residents live a productive life in Charleston, South Carolina.

They work with private insurance and Medicaid, which they will bill for you. They also accept payment and will help establish a payment plan when you qualify. They accept Medicare only for opioid treatment program services but not other addiction services.

Medication Assisted Opioid Treatment Services

Your program begins with a clinical assessment to help identify your needs and the severity of your condition. Once completed, it’s used to develop a treatment plan that utilizes their outpatient services or opioid treatment services. Outpatient care can include individual and group counseling during afternoon and evening hours to accommodate your work or school schedule.

The opioid treatment services address any type of opioid, whether prescription pain medication or illegal street drugs. They use medication assisted detox and medication assisted treatment combined with clinical counseling services to address your recovery journey.

Court Mandated Treatment Services

Other services include urine drug testing, prevention and education programs for drug and alcohol misuse, and prevention programs for tobacco education. Individuals who have had their license suspended after a criminal conviction for drug or alcohol use can complete the Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program to meet court mandated requirements. They also offer a program within the Charleston County Detention Center to provide addiction treatment to inmates in a separate 64 bed male treatment unit.

Levels of Care

  • Inpatient

Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.

  • Outpatient

In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.

  • PHP

Partial hospitalization programs provide comprehensive treatment in a structured setting during the day but allow you to return home at night. These programs offer a balance of inpatient and outpatient rehab and provide intensive support without full time residency.

Detox Service Setting

  • Outpatient Detox

Outpatient detox gives you access to medically supervised withdrawal services while still allowing you to live at home. You’ll attend a clinic for treatment and monitoring. This flexible option is suitable for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who have strong support systems.

  • Inpatient Detox

Inpatient detox occurs in a dedicated treatment facility. You’ll live there around the clock and receive intensive medical support and supervision to help manage your withdrawal symptoms. It is suitable for individuals with moderate to severe addictions as it ensures a stable detox environment.

  • Hospital Detox

Hospital detoxification allows you to withdraw from drugs or alcohol in a hospital setting. It’s ideal for people with severe withdrawal symptoms or complex medical needs. You’ll receive constant monitoring, emergency care if needed and FDA approved prescription medications.
