About Coastal Harbor Health System Behavioral Health
Coastal Harbor Health System is accredited by The Joint Commission for their mental health and substance use disorder treatment center. They have several locations, including the location on Stephenson Avenue in Savannah, Georgia. They offer medically supervised detox through the inpatient addiction treatment program for adults and veterans.
Payment is made easier because they accept most major insurance plans. They also take TRICARE, Medicare, and Managed Medicaid plans. The facility is part of the Patriot Support Programs.
The inpatient detox program is for adults 18 and up with addictions to alcohol and drugs. Detox is the first step to sobriety because, during detox, you’ll rid your body of the toxic substances you’ve been using. After prolonged substance use, your body becomes physically dependent on the substance. Detox breaks that dependence.
During inpatient detox at the center, you’ll meet with a physician and a psychiatrist. They’ll determine the best treatment plan based on your addiction. They’ll also look for any co-occurring mental health disorders, such as bipolar disorder or depression. It’s important that you know about any co-occurring disorders because they’re often driving your substance use. Many people use substances to self medicate co occurring disorders.
While you’re detoxing, you’ll have medical supervision. You’ll attend substance abuse education and relapse prevention classes. To deal with the emotional reasons you’ve been using, you’ll participate in individual, family, and group therapy. Some of the therapies they use are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). These therapies help you turn your negative thoughts into more positive thoughts to reduce anxiety and depression and to find healthier alternatives.
It’s not just therapy. They have a patient library, where you can go to relax and spend some downtime. You can also attend a religious service or do yoga to heal your spiritual core. They allow animals into the center to give you a furry companion to cheer on your recovery. Finally, weekend cook offs can be fun, tasty, and you can express yourself by creating and sharing food.
The program introduces you to the 12 Step model of recovery through Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) groups. There are also optional religious services. You can attend yoga and participate in animal assisted therapy. After detox and your inpatient program, you’ll be ready for your next steps which may include an outpatient program for continued support.
Levels of Care
-
Inpatient
Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
-
Aftercare
Aftercare programs provide ongoing support after you complete a rehab program. They may include several components to help you maintain sobriety including therapy, community support groups and relapse prevention strategies. This gives you a network of resources as you reintegrate into your daily life.
-
Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnosis programs address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously. This integrated approach to care improves the likelihood of long term recovery and stability by addressing the root causes of addiction.
