About Cumberland Heights – ARCH Academy
Kingston Springs, Tennessee, is a rural river town near Nashville and home to the Cumberland Heights Arch Academy, a residential drug and alcohol rehab for adolescent males aged 14-17. Those with co-occurring mental health challenges can get help for those as well. The facility is close to the Harpeth River on 67 acres of woodlands. The area is perfect for hiking, canoeing, fishing and glamping.
They’ve created a therapeutic group environment that uses adventure therapy and the 12 Steps as the main path to recovery. Medical detox is available for those who need it. They treat young men in all stages of substance use, from the dabblers to those in full addiction.
They can start with a month-long primary care program or stay on for longer. The average length of treatment is six months. Recovery activities and academics get equal attention so that reentering regular life is less challenging.
What I love about this place is their keen understanding of the mind of a young man. While they do use proven methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solo counseling and group meetings, they lean heavily toward experiential therapies.
Some of the activities include working with horses, art, music assisted therapy, pottery and mindfulness meditation. Much of their adventure therapy takes place outdoors such as the ropes course and ziplining. Part of their recovery work includes living skills. They’ll do practical chores like keeping their personal areas clean and doing laundry. Communal living also teaches many social and life skills.
All treatment is done from a trauma informed perspective. This ensures that each young man feels safe enough to lower his defenses, get honest with himself, and start the work of recovery.
Levels of Care
-
Inpatient
Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
Detox Service Setting
-
Inpatient Detox
Inpatient detox occurs in a dedicated treatment facility. You’ll live there around the clock and receive intensive medical support and supervision to help manage your withdrawal symptoms. It is suitable for individuals with moderate to severe addictions as it ensures a stable detox environment.
-
Outpatient Detox
Outpatient detox gives you access to medically supervised withdrawal services while still allowing you to live at home. You’ll attend a clinic for treatment and monitoring. This flexible option is suitable for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who have strong support systems.
