About Discovery Cove Recovery and Wellnes Center

Located in Eagle River, Alaska, Discovery Cove Recovery and Wellness Center offers substance use treatment for adults all over Alaska. They provide medication assisted treatment, outpatient detox, intensive outpatient treatment, general outpatient and cultural and faith-based services. They also provide a program for commercial pilots, minor consuming offenders, and those charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI).

Discovery Cove offers outpatient detox treatment. This method allows clients to detox safely while continuing regular life. It is a good fit for those who need flexibility and want to sleep at home. Various treatment modalities such as individual counseling and equine therapy may also be part of treatment.

MAT involves using medications under the supervision of a psychiatrist. Various medications such as suboxone, methadone, disulfiram, buprenorphine, and naltrexone (Vivitrol) may be used to reduce opioid dependence. Individual counseling and psychosocial groups are also part of MAT.

Their IOP consists of a structured plan that consists of individual and group counseling and education. They offer nutrition education and equine assisted psychotherapy with trained horse experts. This program involves a minimum of six treatment hours each week.

A step down from IOP is OP or level 1 treatment. This service provides regularly scheduled sessions to address lifestyle, attitude and behavioral issues that led to addiction. Usually, treatment is two group sessions per week and may include MAT.

Discovery Cove Recovery and Wellness Center accepts private pay, military insurance and private health insurance. Contact your provider to verify coverage because out of network benefits can vary.

  • Dual Diagnosis

Dual diagnosis programs address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously. This integrated approach to care improves the likelihood of long term recovery and stability by addressing the root causes of addiction.

Detox Service Setting

  • MAT

Medication assisted treatment combines medication and counseling to manage withdrawal and reduce cravings for opioid and alcohol addiction. Medications may include methadone, buprenorphine or naltrexone. MAT is tailored to your needs so you can actively participate in your treatment journey.

  • Outpatient Detox

Outpatient detox gives you access to medically supervised withdrawal services while still allowing you to live at home. You’ll attend a clinic for treatment and monitoring. This flexible option is suitable for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who have strong support systems.

Programs

  • Adult (18+)

Adult programs address the substance use and life challenges specific to adults. Therapists can deliver sessions in individual, group and family settings. Services often include job support and life skills training in a structured environment.

  • Women

Women's programs offer a safe and supportive space to focus on gender specific issues such as trauma, family roles and mental health conditions. Therapists tailor the sessions to address women's needs and foster empowerment in a healing and nurturing environment.

  • Men

Men's programs address substance use while also considering the social pressures, family roles and mental health concerns that are specific to men. You’ll learn healthy coping mechanisms as you build emotional resilience and develop communication skills.

  • Young Adult (18 - 25)

Young adult programs are designed for individuals who are transitioning into adulthood. Topics of discussion typically include identity, independence and peer relationships. Providers may also offer life skills training and career support.
