About GV Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center
The GV Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center is a multi departmental hospital for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Jackson, Mississippi. They have a lot of different specialties and services, but one of them is addiction treatment and detox. It’s an inpatient hospital so care is available 24 hours a day. Keep in mind that it’s a VA facility, so the treatment here is for veterans and service members and their families. Referrals are required.
The detox treatment here is medically managed detox, which means you’ll have a medical team available throughout your withdrawal. The experienced staff will monitor your health throughout your detox and make sure you’re safe and well. They’ll also use medications to help you stay as comfortable as possible while you detox too.
One way they do this is using specialized opioid addiction medications like methadone and buprenorphine. Those medications can ease your cravings and withdrawal symptoms and the team can gradually step down your reliance on opiates. They can continue to provide these medications after your detox, too, but that will depend on your addiction and your needs.
This VA hospital is also experienced in treating co-occurring disorders. Mental health conditions also typically suffer when you have an addiction so during your detox they’ll also help you stabilize any mental health conditions like PTSD and bipolar disorder and help you manage them.
During your detox care, you’ll also be getting started on your healing and recovery process. You’ll have group therapy and individual therapy, and you’ll connect with others who are in your shoes. Most clients start with detox and then transition into the VA’s full continuum of care for addiction recovery. That can be inpatient rehab and then transitioning into varying levels of outpatient treatment.
Levels of Care
-
Inpatient
Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
-
Aftercare
Aftercare programs provide ongoing support after you complete a rehab program. They may include several components to help you maintain sobriety including therapy, community support groups and relapse prevention strategies. This gives you a network of resources as you reintegrate into your daily life.
-
Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnosis programs address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously. This integrated approach to care improves the likelihood of long term recovery and stability by addressing the root causes of addiction.
