About Queens Village Committee for Mental Health for J-CAP, Inc.
Queens Village Committee for Mental Health for J-CAP provides medication assisted treatment (MAT) to young and mature adults from ages 17 and up. You can find them in the vibrant neighborhood of Jamaica, New York. They have an outpatient program and a residential program with a capacity for almost 200 clients at a time. Since they don’t have detox services, you must have detoxed before you enter their program.
Three-Phase, Therapeutic Community Treatment Model
J-CAP, which stands for Jamaica Community Adolescents Program, runs a three-phase treatment plan that heavily focuses on group support, interactions, and development. The initial phase, orientation, is about defining your current state and establishing your goals for recovery. Next is the main treatment phase and focuses on changing unhealthy behavior patterns through group recovery sessions, individual therapy, recovery coaching, and mental health support.
Throughout your stay at Queens Village Committee for Mental Health for J-CAP, you’ll be expected to partake in chores and housekeeping activities. This involvement is helpful for developing a sense of community and taking ownership over your behavior.
The last phase is re-entry, which can involve vocational counseling and housing assistance as you re-integrate into your normal life.
Part of a Vast Network of Carers
In 2020, J-CAP became part of the Acacia Network. They’re a nonprofit organization that provides culturally informed, trauma informed, and integrated programs that look after the community at large. Their care reaches more than 150,000 people each year, providing housing, healthcare services, workforce development, and youth education.
Because J-CAP is an Acacia Network affiliate, joining their programs gives you easy access to their other services and providers. Although not part of the network, you can also head over to Baisley Park a couple blocks down to stretch your legs and unwind.
