About Julian F. Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center
The Julian F. Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center was founded back in 1969. They’re based in Black Mountain, North Carolina. You’ll find ’em right off US Highway 70. It provides support for clients of all ages. They’ve expanded treatment to include support for mental health, as well as addiction treatment and detox. Perinatal care is also provided.
Inpatient Detox & Support Services in Black Mountain
The center’s acute care unit is used as a kind of detox center, where an interdisciplinary team is on hand to provide medically monitored detox for clients needing to get sober. They can also support psychiatric stabilization for clients with concurrent mental health disorders and behavioral issues. Both voluntary and involuntary admissions are recognized.
The center also provides a packed inpatient schedule including group therapy, classes, and educational activities to help individuals understand how addiction works, as well as how co-occurring mental health issues can compound and impact it. When clients reach the end of their care here, part of the discharge process involves referring individuals to relevant continuing treatment options, mental health programs, self-help resources, as well as outpatient resources.
Ambulatory Care at JFK ADATC
The center also provides its own outpatient services, including peer support for both pre-admission and post-discharge.
What this means for pre-admission is that clients who have been approved and accepted for admission here can access peer support services. They may, for example, be on a waiting list for treatment. During this time, a peer support specialist will reach out with resource connections and support while they wait for their admission date.
Clients can access post-discharge services for up to 30 days after they discharge from either the drug rehab or acute care unit. At this point, peer support specialists can help out with elements of early post-recovery living and continued care.
Peer support specialists are a great resource for individuals in recovery, since not only do they share their own recovery experiences, they support by connecting clients with recovery resources in their local community. They can also attend support meetings with clients and help individuals in finding resources for transport, food and groceries, employment, and clothing.
