About Kansas City Metro Methadone Program
The University of Kansas Medical Center Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences offers opioid addiction treatment for adults in the Kansas City region. They are a federally licensed opioid treatment program that provides inpatient and outpatient detox and medication assisted treatment. They treat those with a dual diagnosis.
Detox is the first step in substance use recovery. Detox is offered both in an inpatient and outpatient setting. Inpatient detox is for those who require around the clock monitoring and are at higher risk. Outpatient detox is for those who have personal obligations and can’t commit to residential care. These clients can receive detox treatment during the day and return to their usual schedules afterward. Medications to ease withdrawal symptoms may be administered. After detox, clients can step down into another level of care such as MAT.
MAT is a comprehensive approach to opioid or alcohol dependence. It combines behavioral therapies with FDA-approved medications, This clinic offers a variety of non-addictive drugs including Suboxone, film methadone, Sublocade and Vivitrol. Having access to multiple medications ensures that patients will get the right one for their needs and symptoms. Some of these are injectable while others are tablets or sublingual tablets or film. Some medications are administered daily while others can be as infrequently as once a month.
Depending on the medication, clients may regularly have individual counseling sessions. Group counseling sessions are also available for those who wish to participate.
The University of Kansas Medical Center Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences accepts private pay, Medicaid, Medicare, and military insurance. Clients may be referred to other community drug rehab programs some of which may be covered by private health insurance. Contact your provider to verify coverage as out of network benefits can vary.
Levels of Care
-
Inpatient
Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
-
Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnosis programs address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously. This integrated approach to care improves the likelihood of long term recovery and stability by addressing the root causes of addiction.
-
Aftercare
Aftercare programs provide ongoing support after you complete a rehab program. They may include several components to help you maintain sobriety including therapy, community support groups and relapse prevention strategies. This gives you a network of resources as you reintegrate into your daily life.
