About MeadowWood Behavioral Health
In order to meet the needs of adolescent, adult, and senior adult patients who require care for psychiatric concerns that are compounded by substance abuse or dependence issues, MeadowWood Behavioral Health Hospital in New Castle near Wilmington, Deleware features a co-occurring disorders program. This program aims to minimize the risks involved when a person is experiencing withdrawal from drugs and/or alcohol and affords each patient with a number of mental health and substance abuse services that are geared towards helping patients recover from addiction and mental health conditions.
The first therapeutic intervention implemented within this program is detoxification services so that our patients can become physically and mentally stable prior to engaging in other methods of care. Detox is supervised by medical staff, including physicians and nurses, who can monitor the physical well-being of patients while providing support as the body is rid of harmful substances and toxins.
Once detoxification services are complete, patients are able to partake in the following methods for care, of which are centered on the 12-Step recovery based approach through total abstinence when treating those struggling to overcome an addiction:
Medication management and education
Group therapy
Creative / expressive therapy
Family therapy
Daily 12-step meetings
Educational lectures
Additionally, this program includes education and counseling for coping skill development and relapse prevention. This unique and beneficial aspect of treatment incorporated in this program is facilitated by seasoned Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CADC), who can offer invaluable support in helping our patients achieve healing and lasting recovery.
At MeadowWood’s inpatient treatment center in New Castle, DE, we put forth every effort to help our patients achieve one hundred percent abstinence from all substances and alleviation from the following mental health concerns:
Conduct disorder
Aggressive behaviors
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
Self-harm
Suicidal ideation
In order to fulfill this initiative of helping patients achieve lasting sobriety and healing, we begin the process of discharge and aftercare planning from the moment a person begins treatment in this program. We strive to ensure that our patients will be successful and well-supported once they return to their respective communities so that sobriety can be maintained long after receiving care at MeadowWood’s inpatient treatment center.
