About Meridian Health Services Waterford
Meridian Health Services’ Waterford clinic is a substance use and mental health treatment center tucked away in a northern suburb of Detroit. They also offer detox services. The center is located on North Oakland Boulevard in Waterford Township, Michigan. The detox services are for men and women ages 18 and up.
If you’re worried about the costs of treatment, they accept quite a few insurance plans. They also take Medicare and Medicaid. If you’re on Medicaid, be sure and go to your county’s mental health access center, and they can give you a referral to the center.
The detox program is a 24/7 program providing medical monitoring throughout the process. The program is supervised by physicians. There are separate men’s and women’s detox units both staffed by registered nurses and other licensed medical professionals. It usually lasts 3-5 days.
Many people worry about detox because withdrawal symptoms can be uncomfortable. The facility takes a medical approach, so if you’re experiencing discomfort, they can give you medication to help ease the symptoms. If you need medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid withdrawal, they’ll help you with that. They use buprenorphine for opioid withdrawal. They can also help you withdraw from methadone. The protocols they use are guided by the American Society of Addiction Medicine and The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration.
In the detox program, you’ll start working on the underlying emotional and mental health reasons for your substance use. This may include underlying mental health disorders like depression and anxiety. You’ll meet for individual and group therapy. There are also optional programs such as 12 Step recovery programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
There are also opportunities for leisure, including bike rides, nature walks, and outdoor exercise. You can smoke on the patio outside.
As you get close to the end of your detox, you’ll work with a therapist on a long term treatment plan.
Levels of Care
-
Inpatient
Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
-
Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnosis programs address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously. This integrated approach to care improves the likelihood of long term recovery and stability by addressing the root causes of addiction.
-
Intervention
An intervention is a structured and professionally guided conversation with an individual who is struggling with addiction. During the conversation, family and friends will encourage you to seek treatment. This is often a pivotal step for those resistant to getting help.
