About Mountainside
Mountainside in Canaan, Connecticut offers addiction recovery services to adolescents, adults, and families struggling with the impact of substance use disorder. They provide a complete spectrum of recovery programs from detox and residential treatment to outpatient services and recovery coaching. Located in the lush greenery of the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, at Mountainside, clients can work on their recovery in a serene and distraction-free environment. Mountainside accepts most major insurance plans and assists clients in getting financial aid.
All recovery programs are personalized to meet each client’s unique needs and a continuum of care is provided through each stage of recovery. This means clients are always getting the best treatment as their addiction changes and their recovery progresses. Treatment services include addiction education, 12-step principles, medication assisted treatment (MAT), substance use counseling, individual and group therapy, and relapse prevention.
Extended care programs are available following residential treatment, offering clients time and space away from negative influences and triggers in sober living facilities on the Canaan site. The structured sober living program helps clients develop the skills needed to practice proper self-care, organize their day and cope with daily stressors so they can transition to independent sober living successfully.
In addition to private rooms and comfortable shared living facilities, Mountainside at Canaan has an impressive range of amenities and activities. These include a fitness center, yoga and meditation room, library, high ropes course, waterfall and nature trails, camping groups, basketball court, gardens and more.
I really like the extensive family services offered by Mountainside. They help loved ones understand addiction and heal from the impact substance use has had on close relationships. Services include family therapy to rebuild and reestablish bonds and support groups to connect with others who understand what they’re going through.

Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
Detox Service Setting
-
Inpatient Detox
Inpatient detox occurs in a dedicated treatment facility. You’ll live there around the clock and receive intensive medical support and supervision to help manage your withdrawal symptoms. It is suitable for individuals with moderate to severe addictions as it ensures a stable detox environment.
-
MAT
Medication assisted treatment combines medication and counseling to manage withdrawal and reduce cravings for opioid and alcohol addiction. Medications may include methadone, buprenorphine or naltrexone. MAT is tailored to your needs so you can actively participate in your treatment journey.
