About North Cottage Program
North Cottage Program’s Halfway House is a long-term 65 beds residential facility for men over 18 affected by substance use disorders in Norton, Massachusetts. This program was designed as the second phase of North Cottage’s residential addiction treatment following their intensive treatment program. You can still be accepted into the program even if you didn’t complete their intensive treatment or if you finished a short-term rehab with another provider.
Halfway houses are ideal if you’re transitioning from residential treatment and need a supportive space to rebuild life skills before fully reentering everyday life. You might also consider a Halfway House if you’ve had significant periods of substance use recovery in the past.
The facility boasts an elegant colonial-style mansion nestled among lush trees that create a calm atmosphere for recovery. What’s especially fascinating is their wide range of recreational and entertainment equipment. This encompasses softball, pool tables, library/reading room and television.
They also offer WiFi, vending machines and even slushie deliveries for added comfort. They’re well equipped to optimize convenience. Upon entering the program you’ll be assigned a counselor who will double as your therapist and case manager.
With their approval, you can access employment, personal driving permission, and overnight weekend passes. Among other things, they’ll facilitate your referral to a psychiatrist/medical care, legal services and vocational/housing support when necessary.
You’ll participate in five hours of group therapy weekly alongside at least an hour of individual therapy. The therapy sessions help you address negative behavioral patterns triggering your substance use and develop strong coping skills to help you stay sober. You’ll attend one or more discussion groups daily.
Additional group therapy addresses a host of issues ranging from relapse prevention and smoking cessation to ACOA, LGBTQ+, trauma survivors and even issues of ex-convicts. You’ll attend a 13-part series of educational seminars covering topics related to health, addictions, and life skills.
There are two weekly meetings designed to introduce you to self-help support groups including the 12-step programs of AA and NA. You must attend at least three weekly self-help meetings in the community. Comments from past clients reflect an overwhelmingly positive experience.
