About Project Reality – CLOSED

Project Reality first opened their doors in 1970 to provide evidence-based treatment for high-risk adults and older adolescents in Utah diagnosed with substance use or mental health disorders. Since then, they’ve also helped people with primary medical needs. This encompasses medication assisted treatment (MAT), smoking cessation and psychotherapy. They also offer harm reduction services and infectious disease treatment. However, their Provo location in Utah has closed. This facility was about three miles northwest of Rock Canyon Park and west of Bridal Veil Falls.

In their remaining centers in Salt Lake City, they create a safe and supportive space where you can get personalized care. They offer income-based sliding fee discounts to accommodate the uninsured. They also use public funding when available to offset costs, particularly for pregnant women.

Integrated Care for Long-Term Healing

Project Reality in Provo delivered effective integrated care beginning with a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment. This was followed by personalized treatment alongside MAT. They FDA-approved Vivitrol, methadone and buprenorphine-based options like Sublocade. These medications managed painful opioid withdrawal symptoms and curb physiological cravings.

Clients then attended therapy groups alongside individual sessions to address underlying issues and build relapse prevention skills. Clients also benefited from the support of peers with lived-in experience who provided guidance and encouragement. Individuals struggling to quit smoking were provided FDA-approved meds to manage nicotine withdrawal alongside supportive counseling to tackle underlying issues.

Infectious Disease Screening & Wound Care

Clients visiting this facility got screened or tested for infectious diseases like Hepatitis C and HIV/STI. This made sense especially for IV drug users since they’re susceptible to these infections via shared needles. They also helped clients take care of skin infections like abscesses and wounds. Case managers assisted clients in addressing housing, employment and transportation needs as they moved forward.

Detox Service Setting

  • Outpatient Detox

Outpatient detox gives you access to medically supervised withdrawal services while still allowing you to live at home. You’ll attend a clinic for treatment and monitoring. This flexible option is suitable for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who have strong support systems.

  • MAT

Medication assisted treatment combines medication and counseling to manage withdrawal and reduce cravings for opioid and alcohol addiction. Medications may include methadone, buprenorphine or naltrexone. MAT is tailored to your needs so you can actively participate in your treatment journey.

Programs

  • Adult (18+)

Adult programs address the substance use and life challenges specific to adults. Therapists can deliver sessions in individual, group and family settings. Services often include job support and life skills training in a structured environment.
