About Safe Step Communities
Since 2000, Safe Step Communities has been a network of men’s transitional house. They do have some women’s houses as well. You’ll find ’em located out in suburban Westland, Michigan. They offer a stable environment to start or continue your addiction recovery journey. You’ll benefit from a balance of structure and independence to rebuild your life in a nondescript residential home.
Their transitional living home encourages 12 Step support and independence to reach your goals. You’ll participate in at least three weekly Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings and weekly community meetings. You’ll also complete daily house tasks and be financially responsible for yourself. You might have to mow the lawn, do dishes, or tidy up the rooms. Still, they balance these responsibilities with onsite individual counseling and ongoing support from their staff.
One feature I noticed was their location and accommodations. They provide a fully furnished, comfortable living space with cable TV and modern facilities. Smoking isn’t allowed, though. You’ll also be within walking distance of peer support meetings, all while becoming more independent and forming daily routines.
Another notable element I appreciated was their additional services. Along with a stable recovery community, you’ll benefit from education, transportation, employment, food and health necessities, legal, and financial assistance. I think this is wonderful because getting back on your feet after treatment can come with many hurdles. They strive to set you up for success and create a smooth transition to daily life.
I really like how they want you to be accountable for your actions. They require random drug testing and doing your chores. You’ll have to attend all the required meetings, too. That way, you can form some habits that don’t require depending on drugs.
An honorable mention that I thought was great was their monthly social activities. You’ll benefit from chances to have sober fun and connect with peers in recovery. That way, you can rediscover your interests and leave treatment with a solid support network.
Levels of Care
-
Inpatient
Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
Detox Service Setting
-
Inpatient Detox
Inpatient detox occurs in a dedicated treatment facility. You’ll live there around the clock and receive intensive medical support and supervision to help manage your withdrawal symptoms. It is suitable for individuals with moderate to severe addictions as it ensures a stable detox environment.
-
Outpatient Detox
Outpatient detox gives you access to medically supervised withdrawal services while still allowing you to live at home. You’ll attend a clinic for treatment and monitoring. This flexible option is suitable for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who have strong support systems.

-
