About Salvation Army West Michigan Harbor Light
Salvation Army West Michigan Harbor Light is a Salvation Army program that provides addiction treatment services in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They’re a free program that’s staffed by addiction professionals. They offer subacute detox with medications, residential rehab and varying intensities of outpatient treatment. If it’s appropriate for your situation, they are capable of administering medication assisted treatment (MAT).
Their free program is funded by the sales of clothing donations at Salvation Army stores. This money allows them to pay for professional services from physicians, licensed therapists and nurses to manage their programs without charging the people who need their services. They also receive government funding. Despite being free, they offer a quality program. Their detox, residential and outpatient programs all have CARF accreditation.
If your detox is likely to be mild then they can help you through it with medications. They will let you know if they think you need a more acute detox than they’re capable of working with.
Once you’re through detox, the next step is programming. The Salvation Army is a non-denominational Christian organization so their programming has a spiritual component. The residential portion of the program is usually between 30 and 90 days in length.
Once you’re out in the community you can continue to get MAT services through them. The medications they use are Suboxone and Vivitrol.
Their outpatient services include case management and help with finding work and shelter. One area they’re especially focused on is helping women with children. They work with the family unit as a whole to guide them through recovery.
They have positive feedback from people who have attended the program. One former client identifying as an atheist felt that the spiritual component was inclusive enough that they were comfortable in the program.
