About South Texas Behavioral Health Center
The South Texas Behavioral Health Center is located on West Trenton Road in Edinburg, Texas. The center offers Joint-Commission-accredited behavioral health services for kids, teens, and adults. The adult treatment for patients 18 and older also includes treatment for substance use and co-occurring disorders. The adult substance use treatment is an inpatient program that also provides detoxification from drugs and alcohol. One of the nice things is that they accept Medicaid, Medicare and most private insurance plans.
The facility is open 24/7 so you can get an assessment any time. They have a dedicated chemical dependency unit that has 10 beds. Staff in the unit are Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDC). After an assessment, the counselors will develop a personalized treatment plan to address your needs.
Detox is the first step in treatment for chemical dependency. Detox is the process of ridding your body of the toxic chemicals you’ve been using, and it’s through this process that you break your body’s physical dependency on substances. It’s important to continue the rehab process to sever the emotional and psychological dependency on substances.
In the detox unit, you’ll have nursing care around the clock to monitor your withdrawal symptoms. The nurses operate under the supervision of a physician. Detox can be an uncomfortable time depending on your withdrawal symptoms. Some people have gastric distress, nausea, vomiting, shaking, and insomnia. The treatment team will support you through detox and give you appropriate medications to help ease any uncomfortable symptoms.
Staff will also assess you for co-occurring mental health disorders like depression or anxiety. Co-occurring disorders are often part of the reason why people use substances, so it’s important to understand and learn how to manage your mental health. You’ll do this through therapy.
You’ll start psychoeducational programming and activity therapy. You’ll get connected to supportive community services, learn about money management, and gain skills to help you sustain your recovery long-term.
