About Staten Island University Hospital Northwell Health
Fighting addiction can be a very difficult process, and some patients need medical supervision for their safety. When you or your loved one goes through the intake process, it may become apparent that a period of inpatient detox will be necessary. Inpatient detox allows you to make the first step to go clean in a safe and supportive medical environment.
The inpatient detox process
The length of time varies, but many patients stay for three to six days. The type of substance being abused can affect the duration and approach to inpatient detox. If you participate in our methadone maintenance treatment program (MMTP), you may be admitted for detoxification from methadone or secondary drugs of abuse.
Moving forward after detox
Detox is only one step in a longer process. Living a clean and sober life requires many other lifestyle adjustments. One of our primary goals is to make sure that you continue to participate in chemical dependency treatment after discharge. Our Chemical Dependency Counselors work to make sure that you have an appropriate level of care and attention. We also encourage outpatient counseling, which is also an important part of getting your life back. To help ensure that your adjustment to sobriety is successful, we have resources across New York City.
