About The Lovelady Center
The Lovelady Center serves as a beacon of hope to judicially involved women affected by substance use disorders in Birmingham, Alabama. Their faith based residential treatment and recovery program provides healing, empowerment and restoration. They serve pregnant and postpartum women, moms with young children and single ladies. These encompass those on probation, parole and other judicial supervision.
The goal is to help these vulnerable women reintegrate into society as independent women of God with the skills to lead fulfilling lives. It’s especially great that mothers are allowed to live with their children at the center. This makes it easy for the mother to rebuild her parenting skills and foster a nurturing relationship with her children which further promotes recovery.
Although the program primarily focuses on court-ordered initiatives like jail diversion and supervised reentry, it also welcomes voluntary applications from women not involved in the criminal justice system. Their recovery approach blends Christian based practices and traditional treatment methods. So you should expect to attend group and individual counseling alongside classes on spirituality, continuing education and job readiness.
This is geared towards equipping you with recovery tools that facilitate independent living. You’ll also learn essential life skills such as self-care, anger/stress management, effective communication, problem-solving and building relationships. These enable you to cope with negative emotion that fuels substance misuse, prevent relapse and stay sober.
The spiritual component may involve connecting to God via daily prayers, devotions and bible studies. So, you’ll not just gain practical skills but experience profound spiritual growth. The program lasts nine to 12 months, depending on how fast you achieve your objectives.
You’re expected to satisfy certain expectations to graduate. This includes acquiring at least 34 Loveday credits. Loveday credits are used to measure your recovery effort and commitment to your individualized plans. You must also obtain 34 continuing education credits and a GED if applicable.
Other expectations are having a housing plan, clearing up pending legal issues and obtaining state issued identity documents. You must maintain sobriety and adhere to all program rules throughout your stay in the house. Aftercare services involve ongoing support that matches your changing recovery needs. This may include housing, employment assistance and referral to peer support groups.
