About VA Healthcare Systems of Connecticut Substance Abuse Treatment Program
The PER provides emergency/urgent walk-in evaluation, medication assessment and management, crisis intervention, referrals, and crisis phone services available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for Veterans in behavioral and emotional distress.
We are located at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, West Haven campus, and staffed with psychiatrists, licensed clinicians, social workers, nurses, and qualified mental health professionals. We have psychiatrists on duty 24-hours a day to help manage all acute mental health emergencies and 10 holding bed capacity.
We work with medical emergency staff when necessary to evaluate the complex interplay of medical and psychiatric issues to obtain a thorough medical evaluation prior to formulation of treatment recommendations. In addition, we collaborate closely with an extensive array of medical and mental health services available at VA Connecticut Healthcare System and in the community. This includes inpatient, outpatient, substance abuse treatment, and mental health rehabilitation services. This is to ensure our Veterans have access to resources they require so they can attain their individual treatment goals.
