About William J McCord Adolescent Treatment Facility
Licensed by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and accredited by The Joint Commission, the Tri-County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse/William J. McCord Adolescent Treatment Facility meets the gold standard in regards to the services we provide.
Established in 1993, the William J. McCord Adolescent Treatment Facility is a provider of high quality care to adolescents in the state of South Carolina and a leader in the field of adolescent addiction treatment. Believing that all adolescents, not just those with private insurance, should have access to high quality treatment at affordable prices, the McCord Facility offers a 24-hour structured regime of medical and clinical services to adolescents with presenting alcohol and/or other drug problems.
The McCord Facility utilizes the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Patient Placement Criteria II to determine levels of care and lengths of stay. Naturally, each individual’s length of stay is based on two factors: 1) the severity of the illness, and 2) the progress that individual makes while in treatment. Average lengths of stay range from 5-8 weeks.
Family Counseling sessions are an extremely important part of treatment. Weekly family sessions are scheduled to begin the process of mending relationships and working on issues such as communication, trust, and boundaries. Our experience is that the greater the involvement of the family in treatment, the more likely the adolescent is going to have success in changing his/her life.

Levels of Care
-
Inpatient
Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
Detox Service Setting
-
Inpatient Detox
Inpatient detox occurs in a dedicated treatment facility. You’ll live there around the clock and receive intensive medical support and supervision to help manage your withdrawal symptoms. It is suitable for individuals with moderate to severe addictions as it ensures a stable detox environment.
-
Outpatient Detox
Outpatient detox gives you access to medically supervised withdrawal services while still allowing you to live at home. You’ll attend a clinic for treatment and monitoring. This flexible option is suitable for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who have strong support systems.
-
MAT
Medication assisted treatment combines medication and counseling to manage withdrawal and reduce cravings for opioid and alcohol addiction. Medications may include methadone, buprenorphine or naltrexone. MAT is tailored to your needs so you can actively participate in your treatment journey.
